A New Year to be creative...

Lots of things get said and promised in the early days of a new year.

I have talked to many people this week, most of whom don't bother with "New Year resolutions". They generally don't bother with written goals either. 

I am reminded of the old saying from the cat and Lewis Caroll - "If you don't know where you are going...any road will get you there"

I have a goal this year.

I really want to be more creative.

Not in a cutesy Instagram my food sort of way.  I want to be creatively authentic.

The world craves authenticity.

I even believe the market wants to reward it.

So what does this look like, well I have posted a bunch before about creativity and voice...Here is an example of not accepting the low bar in a business and how to use creativity to be better. Click here.

It's about not trying to be a person or company you are not...you be you.

Here is another fantastic  example that really works well to illustrate and has been around for a while. Its the e-mail from Derek Siver CD baby company.

Here it is...

"Thanks for your order with CD Baby!
Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow. A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our world-renowned packing specialist lit a local artisan candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy. We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved “Bon Voyage!” to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day.

What can you be more authentic about…go ahead, the world needs to hear your authentic voice, after all you are the only one who has it.
